A NEW recycled cardboard bike has been created which can support riders up to 220kg and costs just a tenner. But what to do when it rains?
Have you ever tried to tear a telephone book or a piece of cardboard folded a number of times? It’s tough! The designer behind this two-wheeled creation has harnessed that strength and turned it into a cheap, fast and lightweight mode of transportation.
With bikes being among the most efficient methods of getting around on the planet this designer has come up with a way to reduce fuel consumption, the use of raw materials and keep us healthy at the same time.
Over three years designer Izhar Gafni created a number of prototypes of what would eventually turn into the bike that he has named the Alfa using the fundamental principals of oragami.
While the average bike weighs around 14kg the Alfa weighs less than 10 and its belt-driven design requires no maintenance. It could even be adapted to house an electric motor to make those hills even easier to tackle.
Made from completely recycled materials the Alfa could be the mode of transport of the future.
