1970年10月5日, Janis Joplin 逝世翌日,
有一報紙媒體對 Janis 突然去逝, 以 "CANDLE IN THE WIND" 為標題.
三年後, 1973年 Bernie Taupin 以報刊此標題的靈感, 與 Elton John 共譜上
音樂和歌詞, 為紀念女星 Marilyn Monroe 瑪莉蓮夢露逝世後11年對她的致敬,
原曲是對夢露感性一生的描繪.

TRIBUTE TO JANIS JOPLIN 1943 - 1970
QUOTED:
I know this song was written for Marilyn Monroe, but when listening to it,
it kept reminding me of Janis. so I decided to make this. Without a doubt
Janis Joplin is my favorite female singer. her music is wonderful, her style
was fabulous, and in my opinion she was a beautiful woman.
she died 22 years before I was born, and It makes me sad to know I never
got to see her. but there's still photos and video's.
RIP Janis. I never got the chance to know you,
but I know you are deeply missed.
GOOD BYE ENGLAND'S ROSE - Candle In The Wind RYAN WAYNE WHITE 1971 - 1990
1990年四月七日 Elton John 在演唱會中以此曲献給 Ryan Wayne White
一位出生於美國印第安納州的青年, Ryan 是一名血友病患者，十歲時在
一次接受輸血治療的過程中，由於輸入了受污染的血液而感染了愛滋病。
醫生當時診斷他可能活不過六個月, 最令人傷感的是學校將他拼於門外,
因而被引起關注, 成為美國抗愛滋病的標誌人物。
Elton John 一曲的翌日, 四月八日 Ryan 終不敵病魔與世長辭. 之後亦以
他不幸的事故, 以電影 " The Ryan White Story " 搬上銀幕。
1997年 Princess Diana 於一次汔車失事意外身亡,
Elton John 改編歌詞並以悼念戴妃香消玉韻於巴黎。此曲再成為很多國家的流行榜
第一位, 亦是最高銷售榜歌曲之一。
