a casual cyclist will not spend the kind of money to set it up properly (an impossibility).
I have used this type of smart phone based cycling app before which gets most of its data from the GPS, the result is really disappointing,
e.g. speed of a bike should be calculated by counting the actual revolution turn of the wheel;
elavation should be calculated by a more sensitive barometric sensor not guesstimate by a GPS program;
calories burned should be calculated from a real power sensor over distance covered, etc.
There are just too many things missing in making this an acceptable instruement in the real world.
